COLLECTOR’S NOTES:
1. Historical Position
The Seiko Chorus line was introduced in the 1960s as a collection of mid-tier dress watches aimed primarily at consumers seeking sophisticated everyday jewelry aesthetics. It sat just below luxury references like the Queen Seiko and Lady Seiko lines.
2. The “Tank” Appeal: Rectangular watches from this era are highly valued today for their resemblance to classic Art Deco geometry. Collectors refer to this style universally as a “Tank” shape.
3. Movement Significance: Finding a dedicated, small-profile manual hand-winding caliber with a quickset date is relatively rare among mid-60s pieces. The Seiko Caliber 2107 is a durable workhorse movement. However, the date mechanism must be treated gently. Changing the date requires manually winding the hands back and forth between 8:30 PM and midnight rather than pulling the crown directly.
4. Preservation Tip: Because this watch features SGP (Seiko Gold Plating), avoid using abrasive chemical polishing cloths or buffing wheels on the outer chassis. Doing so will strip away the micron layer of gold plating and expose the underlying base metal
